Viola Virtuoso: Surgeons Remove Brain Tumor While Woman Plays Violin

Medical science is advancing rapidly. Some things we take for granted, but what surgeons in London have accomplished is truly remarkable.

The doctors removed a tumor from a woman while she played her violin. This prevented them from removing something that controls fine movement in her left hand.

Passion: playing the violin

Playing the violin is the lifelong passion of Dagmar Turner. The 53-year-old Brit is a violinist in an orchestra and was diagnosed with a brain tumor last year. Despite radiation, the tumor continued to grow.

Awakened during surgery

First, the woman was put under anesthesia, and then an opening could be made in her skull. She was then awakened, handed a violin, and asked to play. This was to prevent them from hitting anything important for playing the instrument.

Afterward, the surgeons at King’s College Hospital in London were pleased. More than 90% of the tumor has been removed, and Mrs. Turner can still play her beloved violin.

Amazing! Medical science knows no bounds.
