Parliament Agrees: Daycares Can Turn Away Unvaccinated Children

The vaccination rate has been a matter of discussion for a number of years. A small but growing group of parents are choosing not to vaccinate their children, exposing themselves – and others – to danger.
In particular, the placing of unvaccinated children in daycare centers has long been a concern for scientists, politicians, and parents of vaccinated children.

Majority in Parliament
There was previously doubt about the proposal because it also excluded children who, for medical reasons, cannot receive vaccinations. That loophole has since been closed. After this small adjustment, it appears that in addition to D66, the VVD, PVV, PvdA and Forum for Democracy parties will vote in favor of the proposal. These parties have a majority in both the Dutch Senate and House of Representatives.
Sheltering under someone else’s umbrella
Paul van Meenen of D66 is pleased: “I find it quite significant to allow parents who do not want to vaccinate their children on to a daycare center. You want to shelter under the umbrella, but not raise it yourself.”
