Battered and Brave: Rescuers Save Paralyzed Dog From Near Death

When Antonio, a kind Golden Retriever, was found cowering behind a building in Los Angeles, rescuers noticed he was in great distress.

The trembling dog was motionless and unresponsive. Rescuer Loreta Frankonyte from the animal organization Hope for Paws and her team attempted to approach him.

Despite their efforts, the dog showed no interest in the food offered. He also shied away when they tried to make contact with him.

Unaware of the extent of his suffering at that moment, they soon realized that the dog was on the brink of death.

Despite his stillness, the Golden Retriever was eventually coaxed into a cage and given medical attention. He was too weak to move due to his severe condition.

“We couldn’t determine the extent of his injuries initially as they weren’t visible, but it was evident he had internal damage,” mentioned Eldad Hagar, the founder of Hope for Paws.

Handling injured animals is particularly challenging for these rescuers, especially when dealing with severe internal injuries. Nevertheless, they spare no effort in aiding these distressed creatures.

Veterinarians, responding to a distress call about the Golden Retriever, diagnosed him with internal bleeding, likely caused by a severe blow to the stomach.

If not for their timely intervention, he might not have survived another day.

“Dr. Pedraza determined that Antonio’s injuries were not consistent with a car accident, as there were no external signs. It was a major injury affecting his liver and spleen,” Eldad shared on YouTube.

Following the necessary surgical procedure to remove his spleen, the resilient dog made a remarkable recovery under the care of Little Red Dog, an organization dedicated to saving dogs from high-risk shelters.

“Thanks to our dedicated team, Antonio made an incredible recovery, and we were able to find him a loving home,” Eldad expressed.
