“It will never happen to me.” It’s a thought that often crosses my mind, especially when we imagine the possibility of getting into an accident.
But unfortunately, sometimes it does happen to us. And in those moments, you hope you have a guardian angel.
When 36-year-old American Shannon Lorio ended up in a ditch after a terrible car accident, no one saw her. She was deeply hidden. Shannon thought her last hour had come. She was in excruciating pain.
But then Shannon saw a big unfamiliar dog appear. She panicked.
Shannon remembers the terrible pain when broken glass entered her body after she was thrown out of the car. Her car spun several times before coming to a stop. Shannon had severe cuts and bruises.
She felt like she couldn’t move and thought she was going to die. But then it happened.
“I had scratches all over and was losing a lot of blood. It was as if time stood still because I was in a place where no one could see me. No car passed by, no one came to help, until a big dog suddenly appeared out of nowhere,” Shannon said in the TV program Heroes Among Us.
He opens his mouth
The dog stood next to Shannon, and suddenly he opened his big mouth. Shannon couldn’t move due to the intense pain.
Then the dog came closer and started licking her face.
Shannon was relieved, but the dog didn’t lick her because he needed love or a playmate. He licked her for another reason. He was licking the blood off her face, and he pushed Shannon towards the street so that passersby would notice her. That’s when Shannon realized that this unfamiliar dog was trying to save her.
“This dog did everything for me. I truly believe that if he hadn’t helped me, I wouldn’t be here today. I would probably have been dead,” Shannon said.
“He saved my life”
The dog has since been trained as a real rescue dog. Not surprising, as it seems to be his calling.
“He saved my life without any training. Just think about what he could achieve if he were trained,” Shannon said.
“I consider all dogs heroes,” she concluded.
