The village of Paradise, located around 10 kilometers north of Sacramento, was nearly wiped out by the devastating “campfire” inferno around two years ago, transforming a once idyllic haven into a desolate landscape of ashes.
Forced Evacuation
The California fire department battled approximately 8000 fires, scorching an immense 700,000 hectares of land.
Andrea Gaylord was among those forced to flee her residence. Upon her return to the site where her home once stood, a remarkable discovery awaited her amidst the despair and desolation.
Paradise, California, lay in ruins, with Andrea managing to salvage a few belongings during the evacuation.
Dogs’ Tragic Fate
However, it wasn’t just material possessions she lost. Her cherished canine companions, Madison and Miguel, failed to respond to her calls during the evacuation.
The heart-wrenching decision to leave her dogs behind left Andrea in tears, uncertain if she would ever see them again.
A month later, as Andrea revisited her former home site, she had lost all hope of a reunion with her beloved pets.
Food and Water Left Behind
Prior to this, animal advocate Sheila Sullivan, moved by the ordeal of Andrea’s dogs, had left provisions of food and water on the grounds, hoping for their survival.
Upon returning to the desolate site, Andrea witnessed two white figures dashing towards her. To her astonishment, Madison and Miguel had survived!
“A Moment of Relief”
“It felt like a miracle. I was overjoyed,” expressed Andrea to NBC News.
While her former home remains a memory, Andrea cherishes the continued presence of her faithful companions.
