When dogs stray away from home, it can be a heart-wrenching experience for their families. The uncertainty of when or if they will return can be agonizing. This was the case when Sage, a 12-year-old blind Labrador, went missing from her home.
Sage’s family, residing in Boulder Creek, California, tirelessly searched for her without success, leaving them distraught and fearful for her well-being.
“Ten of our neighbors helped search until late at night. A few days later, they came back to search again,” shared Beth Cole with The Dodo.
After five days, hope started to wane as they imagined the worst for Sage. But their determination never faltered as the days passed without any sign of her.
Then, on the eighth day, a glimmer of hope appeared when a neighbor, Dan Estrada, spotted something near a stream. To his surprise, it was Sage, lying seemingly lifeless next to the water.
Despite initial concerns that she might not make it, Dan discovered that Sage was still alive when she raised her head upon hearing their voices approaching.
With immense relief, Dan rushed to her side, carried her, and shared a heartfelt moment of reunion with Sage, who mustered up the strength to wag her tail weakly.
Reconnecting with Dan’s dogs, whom she recognized, Sage showed signs of joy despite her weakened state after enduring eight days in the wilderness without food.
Upon reuniting with her owners, Sage was enveloped in love and cuddles, marking a heartwarming conclusion to her remarkable survival story.
Now that Sage is back home, she is receiving lots of cuddles and love once again. What a positive ending to this story!
