Rescued Retriever: From Dumped to Devoted with a 21kg Tumor

Pets come with responsibilities and costs attached to them, including food, vaccinations, and veterinary care. When a pet falls ill suddenly, many owners may struggle to afford the necessary treatment.

Thankfully, there are shelters and organizations dedicated to helping animals in need, ensuring that no pet is abandoned when facing chronic illness.

Tragically, this was the fate of Henry, an 8-year-old golden retriever who was discovered dumped on a California beach a few years ago, burdened by a massive 46-pound (21 kg) tumor, as reported by CBS Los Angeles.

Rescuers suspected that Henry was abandoned due to his debilitating condition, necessitating immediate medical intervention.

Valerie Schomberg, from the animal control department, took on the task of assisting this lovely dog and even raised $500 for his surgery.

Veterinarian Karla Nichols revealed to Inside Edition that the tumor had severely impeded Henry’s mobility.

“The weight of the tumor made it difficult for him to even lift his right front paw,” she explained.

After just five days of being rescued, Henry underwent surgery to remove the tumor, enabling him to live a healthy life. He now weighs a commendable 66 pounds (30 kg).

Animal control authorities thoroughly investigated Henry’s case and emphasized the illegality and cruelty of abandoning pets.

I am delighted that this story had a happy ending. Every animal deserves to be shown love and compassion.
