However, some cats, like Hidey, have coats that need regular grooming. When neglected, the situation can spiral out of control.
Hidey, a cat whose owner could no longer care for her due to Alzheimer’s, ended up severely neglected for years, with fur resembling dreadlocks.
Rescuers took Hidey to an animal shelter in Pittsburgh, USA, where it was discovered that the neglect spanned two years, resulting in dreadlocks up to 20 centimeters long.
Veterinarian Jenn Levitzki documented the process of freeing Hidey from her tangled fur, which resembled dreadlocks, and shared the video on Facebook. Hidey had to be sedated during the procedure to minimize any discomfort.
A Facebook post highlighted Hidey’s severe neglect, with veterinarians having to completely shave off her fur to improve her well-being. Hidey was then placed in a new home with a caring owner.
Proper care could have prevented the plight Hidey endured, serving as a poignant reminder to look after our elderly neighbors and their pets.
