Neglecting animals during vacation time is a common problem. Unfortunately, there are far too many cases of abandoned dogs in the woods, but other forms of suffering are also caused.
A neglected kitten found on a Rotterdam balcony is the most recent example of this.
The Rotterdam Delfshaven police conducted an investigation after receiving a report from local residents. After talking to various neighbors, it quickly became clear that the cat had been sitting on the balcony for a week and a half, tied to a string.
Squeaking Sounds from Balcony
Meanwhile, the poor animal constantly made squeaking and meowing sounds to attract attention.
The Algemeen Dagblad reports that the police eventually managed to reach the owner by phone, after which the owner gave up the kitten. The litter box and the blue food bowl suggest that the owner had been away for a while, possibly on vacation.

At least the drama resulted in a fantastic photo of a helpful officer with the freed animal.
