Experiments with animals are still occurring worldwide, with hundreds of thousands of animals enduring torture for human gain.
The organization PETA has exposed the mistreatment of donkeys in Chinese animal hospitals, where they are exploited for their skin to produce medicine.
Donkeys have historically been used for transportation, with instances like in Greece where they are forced to carry heavy loads over long distances in harsh conditions without adequate hydration.
The inhumane treatment of donkeys has long been a concern among animal rights advocates, striving to end the cruel practices inflicted on these animals around the globe.
Donkeys are five months old
Reportedly, in 2017, thousands of donkeys, some as young as five months old, were subjected to torture for profit, a disturbing practice that persists today. According to PETA, witnesses have found deceased donkeys that did not survive the harsh journey to slaughterhouses. Shockingly, one injured donkey was reportedly kicked and beaten by workers, left to perish.
In Kenya, animal abuse is not legally prosecuted, allowing perpetrators to continue mistreating animals without consequences, unlike in countries such as the Netherlands.
Medicine
Donkey skin is boiled down to extract a gelatin-like substance called “ejiao,” used in traditional Chinese medicine.
PETA advocates for alternative medicines to ejiao that do not involve animal cruelty, suggesting plant-based sources for the same medicinal purposes, thereby eliminating the need to harm animals.
The organization is actively campaigning to halt the trade involving the slaughter of donkeys, particularly in countries like Kenya.
A petition is circulating to end the brutal slaughter of donkeys.
