Peeing in the Shower: 5 Reasons Why You Should Always Do It

What happens behind closed bathroom doors is something most people don’t want to talk about.

So it’s no wonder that almost no one admits to peeing in the shower.

But the fact is, according to a survey conducted by YouGov, 61 percent of Americans have peed in the shower at some point. And I’m sure people in other countries pee in the shower in similar numbers.

But it’s not as gross and dangerous as you might think…

Urine is not bad for the body. On the contrary, there are several benefits to emptying your bladder while standing in the shower.

1. It’s good for the environment

Every time you flush the toilet, six liters of water flow through the drain. On average, we pee about seven times a day, which means we use about 42 liters of water every day to flush the toilet.

Peeing in the shower once a day could save a country like the UK about 140 billion liters of water per year. Pretty impressive, right?

2. It’s a natural bathroom cleaner

Anyone living with boys knows they sometimes sprinkle a few drops of pee in front of the toilet. And while it’s not dangerous, I’d rather not sit on the toilet when there’s dried urine on it.

3. It’s hygienic

When you wipe yourself, you spread everything around. It’s not particularly clean, especially if you’ve just had a number two.

So peeing in the shower can even save you from getting a urinary tract infection due to poor wiping habits.

4. It saves money

If you don’t pee on the toilet very often, you won’t use as much toilet paper. And you save time, something that is often scarce in the morning.

5. It’s good for your skin

Urine contains urea, which is good for the skin and is a natural moisturizer. It is a common ingredient in skincare products, but is often produced synthetically.

Dermatologist Rachel Nazarian, MD of the Schweiger Dermatology Group, says, “We already use urea, a component of urine, in many skincare products. Urine is mainly water, but a small percentage is urea.”

So what’s stopping you! The next time you shower, take the opportunity to answer nature’s call and let go of your old prejudices!
