Golden Milk Bliss: Coconut, Turmeric, and Pepper Power Combo

Golden Milk Bliss: Coconut, Turmeric, and Pepper Power Combo

When I feel sick, but not sick enough to go to the doctor, I usually grab an over-the-counter remedy from the pharmacy. But recently, I remembered all the home remedies my mother used to make for me. So instead of taking a bunch of pills, I revisited all the brews my mother used to make for me.

Every five minutes, a teaspoon of ginger when my stomach hurts, honey water with lemon when I have a cough or sore throat… There isn’t always scientific evidence to support them, but home remedies have generations of mothers swearing by them!

Most of the time, I cook food myself. My body feels good, and I feel better knowing I’m not eating a lot of bad ingredients. And lately, I’ve been thinking about food as medicine. So when I was sick, but not seriously ill, I tried home remedies that contain natural ingredients before heading to the pharmacy to take a bunch of unnecessary chemicals.

When a friend told me about a concoction made with warm coconut milk, turmeric, and black pepper, I wanted to try it right away.

The drink, which is supposed to be good for almost everything, is called ‘golden milk.’ However, it does not contain milk. So even people who are lactose intolerant or trying to avoid dairy products can give it a try.

Here is a list of all the benefits. After reading it, you’ll definitely want to give it a try.

1. Aids Digestion

Curcumin is an antioxidant in turmeric. It has many beneficial properties and has been trusted for over 4,000 years for its health benefits. According to research, turmeric can promote digestion and reduce gas and bloating. When you use cow’s milk and ginger in coconut milk, it can also reduce nausea and stomach pain.

2. Soothes Sore Muscles

Research shows that turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties and helps calm muscles. If you don’t want a warm beverage after a workout, you can also drink this or use it as a base for smoothies.

3. Fights Colds and Flu

The ginger in this drink not only relieves nausea but also soothes sore throats. It is also antimicrobial, so it fights both viruses and bacteria.

4. Aids Weight Loss

Various studies on mice show that turmeric can reduce the growth of fat cells and increase metabolism. Black pepper also helps the body absorb other nutrients, including vitamins B and C. Studies on black pepper also show that piperine is good for teeth, stomach ulcers, and fat burning.

5. Lowers Cholesterol Levels

In the past, coconut oil was not considered healthy, but recently many experts have spoken out in favor of it. Studies show that coconut oil is good for increasing the good cholesterol (HDL) levels in your body.

There are several golden milk recipes, so choose one that suits you and tastes good.

Here is a basic recipe that I use. It forms a base that you can use to quickly get golden milk whenever you want.

What You Need:

  • 1 cup chopped organic turmeric
  • 1 tablespoon ground black pepper (or as much as you can handle)
  • 1 cup water

How to Make It:

Bring the water to a boil and then add the turmeric and black pepper. Let it simmer for a few minutes until it becomes a thick paste. Stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, the paste will last 1-2 weeks.

Try to flavor the milk with ginger, honey, cinnamon, or cardamom. It tastes good cold or in smoothies, but I find it most delicious when it’s warm. You can drink it in the morning or before bedtime.
