Father’s Skin Turns Black: The Secret Behind His Transformation

He was a loving husband and father who loved spending time with his family.

He was a lover of life, active, and worked a lot.

But a seemingly harmless infection changed everything for 44-year-old Kevin Breen from Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Two days after Christmas 2016, Kevin Breen started experiencing severe abdominal pain and flu-like symptoms.

His condition worsened and there was no choice but to go to the emergency room.

Kevin’s doctors were baffled. They sent the father of two home with medication and told him to return if it didn’t improve.

That night, Kevin’s condition worsened, and the next morning he was readmitted to the hospital.

Through a surgical procedure, doctors soon discovered that his abdomen was filled with 1.5 liters of infected pus.

As doctors struggled to diagnose Kevin, his body began to fail him.

When Kevin’s body struggled to keep his vital organs alive, blood circulation to his hands and feet stopped, causing the flesh on Kevin’s fingers and toes to start rotting.

Eventually, Kevin’s doctors had a breakthrough.

After learning that his three-year-old son had recently had tonsillitis, they tested Kevin for streptococcus.

And yes, it turned out that Kevin had contracted a streptococcal infection. It had traveled from his throat to his stomach, where his body was unable to fight it off.

Meanwhile, Kevin’s kidneys started to fail.

He was rushed to intensive care and put on a dialysis machine.

The loving husband and father teetered between life and death, but both he and the hospital staff refused to give up.

Against all odds, Kevin survived this ordeal.

His entire left hand had to be amputated, as well as several fingers on his right hand and parts of both feet.

But, he survived!

Nothing will be the same as before, and he has a very long road ahead. But Kevin defeated the terrible disease. And the fact that he is once again able to play with his children and his beloved wife is a true miracle.

To help with his medical expenses, a fund was set up in Kevin’s name. In just 28 days, almost $11,000 was raised!

Kevin is back to his old self, you could say. And ‘ecstatic’ to be alive.
