Chocolate Cake for Breakfast: Brain-Boosting Benefits Backed by Research
Is it good to eat chocolate in the morning?
Is there anything in the world better than chocolate cake? I myself am guilty of wanting to eat chocolate cake in the morning and weighing the pros and cons of having a slice for breakfast.
Okay, I admit it, I have given in to the urge a few times. Maybe four or five times, to be honest.
Apparently, there is no reason to feel guilty about eating cake in the morning. On the contrary.
The Science Behind Chocolate Consumption
Over the years, there has been a lot of research on chocolate and many studies have shown that chocolate – in moderation – can have several positive effects.
A personal favorite of mine is a very interesting study at Syracuse University in New York. Researchers studied 968 people aged 23 to 98; the study tracked their food intake and overall nutrition.
The researchers concluded that chocolate can have a positive effect on your memory and can even help your brain process information and apply knowledge.
The Surprising Benefits of Chocolate in the Morning
Studies at Tel Aviv University have shown something else that is just as interesting as it is surprising. They studied 193 overweight individuals and found that if a person eats something sweet (like chocolate) with a good breakfast, it can actually help them lose weight.
Researcher Daniela Jakubowicz discovered that the brain benefits from immediate energy when waking up. Therefore, you can also feel better and enjoy a happier start to the day by consuming a little chocolate.
This is because chocolate contains the substance serotonin, which controls your mood and attitude. This means that by giving yourself a boost, you can better enjoy your days.
