Daughter sent home with headache and fever – doctors miss key detail
It is always advisable to consult a doctor if you suspect something is wrong with your health. However, doctors are only human, and sometimes following your instincts and seeking a second opinion is the way to get certainty.
As a nurse, Natalie Walsh knows when a situation is not right.
And it was this knowledge that came to the rescue when her young daughter suddenly became seriously ill.

Natalie took her daughter to the hospital after she complained of severe headaches and high temperatures.
The doctors found a lump on her head that they thought was a spider bite.

They treated the bite and sent Natalie and her daughter home.
However, when the little girl did not get better, Natalie knew something was wrong. She immediately took her daughter to another medical facility.
There, they got the truth – Lyme disease.

Lyme disease is usually identified by the presence of a ‘bullseye’ rash. But because Natalie’s daughter had not had this rash, she was given the wrong diagnosis.
Now, Natalie wants to warn everyone about what to look out for.
Symptoms

In 80% of cases, a red spot appears. This can occur within 3-30 days after being bitten by a tick, reports WedMD. You should also watch out for swollen lymph nodes and fever with aches and pains.
If you experience any of these symptoms, you should check yourself for ticks or bites, which often cause Lyme disease.
Fortunately, Lyme disease is easily treatable in most cases, but it must be treated early to prevent serious complications with your muscles and joints. If left untreated, it can also cause inflammation in your heart, brain, and nerves.
