Shocking Discovery: Doctors Find Tumor in Man’s Lungs, Can’t Believe What They See Inside

Every parent will tell you, kids will be kids!

One of the things that worries me the most about my children is when I see how they constantly put things in their mouths at any chance they get. Not only is it pretty gross, but I live in constant fear that they will choke on something behind my back one day. Unfortunately, we can’t always keep our eyes on our kids, so we just have to accept that sometimes they do things we absolutely don’t want them to do.

Someone who knows this all too well is 50-year-old father of two, Paul Baxter.

He had been suffering from a nagging cough for over a year when he finally decided to see a doctor.

But it wasn’t until they took an X-ray of his lungs that doctors saw something terrifying.

Paul was 47 when he went to the doctor for a persistent cough that had lasted a year. Doctors took an X-ray of the lungs of the father of two and saw something frightening.

Doctors saw what they believed to be a tumor in one of Paul’s lungs. Because Paul is a heavy smoker, they were very concerned.

It wasn’t until Paul was on the operating table that they discovered the truth: what appeared to be a tumor was actually an old toy traffic cone that Paul had swallowed when he was just seven years old.

Paul, who had the toy removed 40 years after swallowing it, describes the moment surgeons removed the toy. “The operation was under local anesthetic, and when they removed the cone, it was hilarious – everyone in the room just laughed,” he says.

“Kids eat things and I clearly chewed on my toys, but I can’t even remember ever swallowing this to be honest,” Paul tells Metro.

“I’ve been told I must have inhaled it for it to go into my windpipe. If I had swallowed it, it would have gone into my stomach and come out the other end.”

“The operation was under local anesthetic, and when they removed the cone, it was hilarious – everyone in the room just laughed,” he says, continuing:

“It came out in perfect condition, you can still see the markings.”

While it’s hard to imagine how Paul lived so long with a toy in his lungs, doctors do have a theory on how the traffic cone went unnoticed. They say that because he inhaled the toy at a young age, “the patient’s airway was able to accommodate the presence of this foreign object.”

Watch below as Paul talks about the unexpected discovery:

Incredible! It’s frightening to think of the damage that could have been done by the toy being in Paul’s lungs for so long, but thankfully he’s ok and has an unbelievable story to tell.
