The Comeback Colt: From Emaciated to Elegant in Just One Month

Dasher the horse looked death in the eyes and had accepted that life was over. Then came horse rescuer Stephanie and gave him hope again.

A month later, he was once again the most handsome stallion in the paddock.

See the transformation in the clip from We Love Animals at the bottom of the page.

The young stallion had been abused by his owners, and his body began to give up. There was actually only one thing to do.

Someone had to come to the rescue. That “someone” was animal rescuer Stephanie, from the organization “Mississippi Horse Rescue.”

When she reached the animal, he was very weak and could barely stand on his legs.

“He barely stood on his hooves long enough to get in the trailer, then collapsed. He was so exhausted. I think he was willing to give up. He was in dire straits. They weren’t feeding him, and he was losing a lot of weight. He thought, ‘I’m going to lay down and just die,'” says Stephanie in the video from We Love Animals.

Miraculously, she managed to get the horse – named Dasher – back on his hooves, but just enough to get in the trailer. Then he collapsed.

Be Critical

He was driven to his new foster home, only a fifteen-minute drive away. There, he had to be dragged out of the trailer. Stephanie says she looked him straight in the eye, he knew he was in a better place, and that he would do well.

The four-legged creature laid down, rolled around, and ate hay. At the same time, she knew that horses that lie down for more than a day or two struggle to fully recover. The next day, they decided to take action.

The horse’s foster family used a tractor with a harness to lift him – and he even managed to stand on his own legs.

Dasher Is Doing Well Again

But Dasher has returned to good form. After a month, he looked the same as before. Now he runs through the paddock and enjoys life once again.

It’s so worth taking on a horse like Dasher and seeing him evolve from, literally, almost dead, to a strong, beautiful, and miraculous creature, says Stephanie.

How lucky there are people like Stephanie who do everything they can to save an innocent and mistreated animal.

It is amazing that Dasher’s life was saved. Really great work!
