In 2013, Pui, a two-year-old Thai Bangkaew male, was wandering the streets close to Bangkok and sifting through the waste.
During his exploration, he found a white plastic bag with movement inside it.
Pui carefully carried the bag from the trash heap and delivered it to his owner, Gumnerd Thongmak.
Upon reaching home, he placed the bag in the courtyard and barked loudly to get his owner’s attention.
According to the Bangkok Post, Thongmak’s 12-year-old niece Sudarat was the first to respond to Pui’s insistent barking. Sudarat joined the dog and eagerly inspected the package he presented to her.
Upon spotting the contents, she immediately called for her mother.
Shocking Discovery
Within the plastic bag, they found a newborn baby with the umbilical cord still attached.
Sudarat’s parents hurried the fragile baby to the hospital, where it was discovered that she was premature, approximately seven months along, and weighed only 4 pounds 8 ounces.
The baby received essential care at the hospital, including oxygen, and managed to survive the traumatic ordeal.
“It’s fortunate that little Pui found the baby. It was unexpected for us, as Pui had never brought anything home before and only barked at strangers while out,” mentioned Pummarat, Sudarat’s mother, who expressed interest in adopting the child. “Fate must have played a role in bringing us together.”
Pui was hailed as a hero for rescuing the girl’s life and was awarded a leather collar with a medal from the local Red Cross. The Thongmak family also received $300 to care for their hero and their three other dogs at home.
As of now, there is no update on the adoptive family for the baby, and the mother’s identity remains unknown.
