Despite the unusual arrangement, the presence of this large dog, named Darwin, captured the hearts of everyone on the plane and gained popularity online.
When Gabriel Bogner relocated from Los Angeles to Brooklyn, he faced the challenge of flying his dog, Darwin, across the country. In a TikTok video, Gabriel shared that Darwin, a 140-pound Great Dane, plays a crucial role as his service dog due to his Crohn’s disease.
While many airlines allow support animals on board, Darwin’s size presented a unique situation since she exceeded the dimensions of the largest available crate. After exploring various options, American Airlines offered a solution – Gabriel could bring Darwin on board by purchasing three seats to ensure the dog’s comfort during the flight.
Gabriel accepted the offer, leading to a memorable journey for everyone involved. A TikTok video documenting the experience of this large dog on the flight has amassed nearly 18 million views.

How did people react when this massive dog boarded their flight? Gabriel mentioned that it was “definitely a shock for people walking through the airport to see a literal horse coming towards them,” but nearly everyone was thrilled about Darwin.
According to the New York Post, Gabriel shared, “There were no issues, she was amazing, and the whole crew was amazing. People were absolutely flabbergasted and shocked, but everyone was so excited to see her… I’ve never seen so many people smiling at an airport.”
The responses to the TikTok video have been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their desire to sit next to the Great Dane and even offering to “pay extra” for the opportunity.
