It’s truly remarkable what a haircut can do, especially for a dog. Many stray and neglected dogs go ungroomed, causing distress as their fur becomes tangled and matted.
Recently, a stray dog was found with so much fur that she “looked like a wig” – until a rescue gave her a life-changing makeover.
Mac’s Mission, a non-profit organization for rescuing dogs with special needs based in Missouri (US), recently saved a severely matted dog found in the middle of the road. The dog, now named Peer, was in terrible shape, completely covered in thick, matted fur.

The rescue wrote that Peer “didn’t even look like a dog,” but rather “a wig” – “just a prop of hair.”
The rescue took her in, and a team of volunteers went to work to help Peer and give her a “spa session” to remove all her dirty fur.
“We cleaned her, shaved her, and gave her a bath to get rid of dirt and fleas,” founder Rochelle Steffen told Newsweek. “She settled into one of our rooms and fell asleep pretty quickly.”
Throughout the process, Peer was a patient, good girl: “She was the sweetest, just sitting there while we removed all the terrible thick mats from her, which took quite a while.”

She added that Peer thankfully did not have maggots in her fur and said the dog was lucky she hadn’t been hit by a car. However, Peer is missing an eyeball, apparently due to an old injury.
Mac’s Mission shared photos of Peer before and after her treatment, showing a remarkable transformation:
“Peer has a new life ahead thanks to all of you,” the rescue wrote on Facebook, thanking their supporters once again.
