Two teenage boys were walking through their neighborhood when they saw a crowd of people gathered around a car.
As they got closer, they tried to make out what the crowd was looking at, but it was the strangest possible sight.
A creature appeared frozen, unable to move.
The boys knew they had to act quickly to help this animal survive, but they had no idea how to assist the poor creature.
It was in Saint Andrews, Canada, where friends Jaydon Pettipas and Aidan Hart made the remarkable discovery, reported by Canadian news outlet CBC.
The two teenage boys would be hailed as heroes for their actions by the end of the day.
Spotting a group of people huddled, they had to see what was causing them to stop and stare. But even up close, they didn’t know what they were looking at.
The animal was barely recognizable and seemed as though it was frozen.
A squirrel was trapped under a car and covered in insulation foam. They knew the little animal didn’t have much time left.
“There was nothing recognizable,” 15-year-old Jaydon told CBC Canada.
The boys knew the squirrel needed help, but weren’t sure how to get it, so they went into a grocery store and grabbed a small milk crate to house the squirrel in.
No one around the boys knew what to do either, and as time passed, the urgency grew.
The boys called friends and family for help.
That’s when Jaydon’s mother stepped in and contacted a veterinary clinic 20 miles away and was told to bring the animal in immediately.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Dr. Melanie Eagan of the St. George Veterinary Clinic.
She said the squirrel was so stuck in the insulation foam that it could barely move its hind legs.
If the boys hadn’t acted quickly and Jaydon’s mother hadn’t helped bring the squirrel inside, it might not have survived.
The veterinarian suspected the animal had possibly been living in someone’s garage, basement, or shed, and had gotten caught in the material.
‘In distress’
“Someone was likely sealing up a hole to keep drafts out and this little guy ran through it while it was still wet,” she said. “But this stuff hardens fairly quickly, so he wouldn’t have been in distress long.”
She said it took a lot of time, patience, and rubbing alcohol to remove the foam from the animal’s fur. She then combed it out, causing the animal to lose part of its fur.
The squirrel has since been released back into the wild.

Thankfully, these two kind-hearted teenagers acted swiftly and were able to save this poor creature! Please share to applaud their efforts!
