Savior turned Roommate: The Tale of a Man who Rescued Puppies, only to Realize his Mistake

Everyone would likely react if they suddenly found five puppies in their own backyard. And that’s exactly what Craig Mcgettrick did.

He was cleaning up a garden with a friend in England when they came across an old mattress. They had to lift the mattress to get rid of it, but they could never have guessed what was underneath.

To his surprise, there were five small puppies under the mattress.

After finding the puppies, Craig contacted a local animal shelter and posted some photos on Facebook, hoping to help find a new home for the puppies.

But a few hours later, he would learn a surprising truth about the little puppies that changed everything…

It was a day like any other in 2017. Craig was helping clean up the neighborhood. They were cleaning up when they came across something he could never have guessed!

Under a mattress, Craig found five of what he thought were small puppies or maybe kittens.

“Those were probably the only two options I could think of,” Mcgettrick told The Dodo, adding, “We thought someone had dumped them knowing we were going to remove waste.”

Craig decided to take the five animals with him. He contacted a local animal shelter and asked them to take care of the babies. But before handing them over to the shelter, Craig posted photos on Facebook of the cute little ‘puppies,’ hoping to find a new owner.

The photos were widely shared and after a while, they found their way to a man named Martin Hemmington, founder of the National Fox Welfare Society.

As soon as he saw the photos, he immediately picked up the phone and called Craig. But not because he wanted to adopt the pups.

“We were contacted by a lovely lady named Beccie via our Facebook page; Beccie had sent a few photos asking if the babies in the photos were indeed fox cubs,” Hemmington wrote in a Facebook post. “We confirmed they were. Beccie told us they had been mistakenly taken to a rescue center in Liverpool as puppies, not fox cubs.”

What Craig thought were puppies turned out to be five little fox cubs.

“Fox cubs do not initially look like foxes when they are cubs, so it is normal for people to confuse them with puppies,” said Paul McDonald, a local rescuer known as The Fox Man, to The Dodo.

Martin Hemmington contacted Paul and he made sure the little fox cubs were a little hungry, causing them to cry for their mother.

Paul then took them to the same place where Craig had found the fox cubs – and gently placed them back.

Not long after, they saw a fox approaching the cubs. Their mother had finally been reunited with her beloved little babies.

Thanks to Craig, Beccie, Martin, and all the people who shared the photos, the mother fox has finally been reunited with her beloved cubs. Beautiful!
