Elephants are among the most magnificent animals but often suffer due to human cruelty. Fortunately, many sanctuaries offer them a chance at a better life, providing space and fresh air.
A heartwarming video captures a blind elephant taking her first steps in freedom after being rescued.

The video was shared by Wildlife SOS, an organization dedicated to rescuing and caring for wild animals in need.
Meet Ginger
Ginger, one of the rescued elephants, had endured a cruel past of continuous chaining, requiring intensive medical care at the elephant hospital.

Once Ginger’s health improved, she was taken out for a walk – her first as a free elephant without chains.
“This is great exercise for her, she can also walk on soft grass which is very good for her cracked footpads,” mentioned a Wildlife SOS representative in the video.

The First Walk in Freedom
Despite Ginger’s blindness, she displayed curiosity during her inaugural walk, taking in the surroundings and exploring with her trunk.
Accompanied by her caregiver to ensure her safety, Ginger joyfully roamed the Yamuna riverbank.
The video captures Ginger using her trunk to grab leaves from a tree and cool off by tossing dirt over herself – natural behaviors she had been deprived of for so long.

Ginger’s past of chains and abuse is now a distant memory as she revels in the freedom and space she deserves for the rest of her life.
“We are very happy to see Ginger finally being an elephant and showing a little joy and happiness.”
