Bullied to Tragedy: Mother’s Heartbreak Ends in Tragic Loss

A father in London, England, experienced what many would consider their worst nightmare.

After his 14-year-old daughter was bullied, she took her own life, followed shortly by his wife who succumbed to what is described as ‘a broken heart’.

In 2021, 14-year-old Mia Janin was found dead in her home.

She had been a victim of online bullying for some time and was added to a group on Snapchat where she was subjected to ridicule by several boys, as reported by the British Mirror.

Leading up to her passing, she had requested her parents, Mariano and Marisa, to discontinue her school attendance and opt for homeschooling instead.

Handwritten Letter to the Family

However, they were unaware of the extent of the bullying.

When the girl took her own life, she left behind two handwritten letters. One for her best friend and one for her parents.

‘I just want you to know how much I love you. You both gave me a good upbringing. I learned a lot, I love you all so much. But I know this is the right decision for me. I have never felt like I belonged on Earth. I have felt the desire to leave for a while. I know this will be a shock to you,” she wrote to her family, according to the Mirror.

Just a few months after the girl’s death, her mother also passed away. Mia’s mother, Marisa, died several months later after a brain aneurysm led to the discovery of acute myeloid leukemia.

Father’s Heartfelt Words

The pain of losing both his daughter and his wife in just four months is, as anyone can understand, devastating for Mariano.

He believes that the real reason for Marisa’s death was the grief over Mia.

“Nothing can bring back my wife and daughter. My daughter was bullied extensively, both in real life and online. In a way, it’s a relief that it’s being recognized now. However, responsibility must also be taken. Another family should not have to endure what I have,” he stated after the coroner’s inquiry at Barnet Coroner’s Court in London, as reported by the Mirror.

“I will try to move forward. I will try to help those who want to change the law to protect our children. I believe we have a lot to do… I think we need to limit our children’s access to the internet. We should be able to gather data if something like this happens again. We have significant challenges ahead of us.”

Rest in peace.
