The conflict in Ukraine, resulting from the Russian invasion, has led to numerous disruptions, causing casualties, and displacing millions of people.
Amidst this crisis, many individuals have been separated from their cherished pets, either due to border restrictions or the chaos of warfare.
Fortunately, efforts are underway to reunite families with their pets. Recently, a heartwarming story unfolded as a cat was flown from Ukraine to the United States to rejoin its family.

Larysa Frisby, who was in Arkansas when the conflict erupted, was unable to return to Ukraine to retrieve her cat, Persik, who was stranded in Odessa.
Due to the intervention of Humane Society International, Persik was safely transported from Odessa to the US via Poland, with the assistance of Kelly Donithan, the director of the Animal Disaster Response Department.

Kelly expressed, βThis cat, Persik, exemplifies the compassionate efforts of Humane Society International during times of turmoil, showcasing how strangers and communities unite to assist one another, including animals.β
After a long journey, Persik was joyfully reunited with his owner in the US, away from the Ukrainian conflict.
Grateful for the support received, Larysa expressed her appreciation for those involved in rescuing Persik and providing care in Warsaw.
We’re delighted that Persik could find safety in the US with his owner! Many thanks to everyone who played a part in this heartwarming reunion!
