A young girl recently posed for a school photo in Auburn, Alabama (USA) when she spotted an unexpected visitor.
Brooke Mills, the student in question, was in the seventh grade and took a photo to commemorate the end of summer and the start of a new school year.
Her mother, ShaneJoy Mills, was the one who took the photo.

Returning to school after a break is often quite special. Summer is over and it marks the beginning of a new period and often a new school year or new classes.
For parents, the return to school can also be a special day. For parents of older children, it is emotional and important to see your children take on more responsibility and become more independent.
When I was young, my mother always took a photo of me when I started a new class. Sometimes it was annoying and sometimes embarrassing.
But looking back now, I understand why she did it. It’s a great way to commemorate your children’s growth and achievements. It can also be an excellent way to remember their first day of school and look back on that time in the future.

Closer look: “It was scary”
But when mother ShaneJoy Mills took a “back-to-school” photo of her daughter Brooke Mills, she got more than she bargained for…
Initially, she didn’t notice anything wrong or unusual. At first glance, Brooke Mills’ photo looks particularly cute. But when her mother examined one of the photos more closely, she couldn’t believe her eyes.
“God, it was scary! I got two photos and said ‘please show your teeth, honey!’ Then I saw the snake,” Mills told WRBL.
“I said ‘Brooke come here’ and she looked at me as if I wasn’t done taking pictures yet! So I said, ‘Brooke, move away from the tree now.’ I said it calmly, but I’m sure my face said it all.”

The snake, apparently freshly fed, blended in perfectly with the bark and was barely visible. It was not immediately recognizable. People have identified it as a rat snake, on the Facebook post of the photo.
The post has been shared hundreds of times. Thankfully, this snake just wanted to steal the show by looking cute in the photo!
