Courageous 65-Year-Old Saves Husky Trapped in Icy Waters

The freezing winter conditions can create perilous situations for dogs.

This winter, numerous incidents have occurred where dogs either got stranded on ice or plunged into icy waters.

Fortunately, there are individuals who are committed to rescuing these animals, even if it means confronting frigid waters.

Such was the case for a courageous Russian woman who saved her Husky trapped in ice.

The 65-year-old Galina Voskovykh from the Voronezh Oblast region in western Russia was out for a stroll with friends along the river when she heard the distressed cries of a dog. As reported by the Daily Mail via a Russian source.

Upon finding the Husky stuck in icy water, she immediately took action to save its life.

“Without a second thought, I removed my clothes and leaped into the water,” Galina recounted.

Due to the ice hindering the dog from returning to shore, Galina cleared a path for her to pass through: “I assisted her and broke the ice using my body,” she explained.

Despite the extreme cold of swimming through the icy river with minimal clothing, the effort was rewarding as it saved the dog’s life.

Galina successfully freed the Husky from the ice, and together they swam back to safety.

The rescued dog then ran off with another man, apparently its owner.

According to the Daily Mail, Galina only sustained minor scratches and bruises. Some questioned her decision to jump into the water, as in the past, people attempting such rescues put their lives at risk.

However, Galina is a proficient swimmer and stands by her choice without any regrets.

“I don’t see myself as a hero,” she stated. “I believe anyone would have done the same.”
