During tough times, animals can bring immense comfort. It’s common for many individuals, especially towards the end of their lives, to seek solace in the presence of their cherished pets.
A heartwarming incident occurred when a terminally ill woman received a surprise visit from her favorite animal.
Lisa McDonald and her sister were tending to their ailing mother in palliative care. With their mother’s deep fondness for the classic Disney movie Bambi, the sisters aimed to make her final moments truly special.
“She surrounds herself with Bambi figurines, even wears a Bambi shirt to bed,” shared Lisa in a Facebook post within the group De Pandemie van de Aardigheid. “Both my sister and I, along with supportive family members, donned Bambi t-shirts, which we jokingly refer to as our nursing attire.”
As their mother’s health deteriorated, the family orchestrated a surprise – a visit from a real-life Bambi, an actual deer!
Upon the deer’s entrance, the elderly woman was filled with joy and wonder.
The deer, coincidentally named “Bambi” too, hailed from a petting zoo managed by Chris and Simone. The couple had nurtured and raised the deer after it was orphaned.
Lisa expressed gratitude for their heartfelt gesture, as Chris and Simone drove a two-hour distance from Melbourne solely “out of pure love and kindness,” aiming to bring joy to the woman with a deep affection for deer.
“I cannot express enough gratitude for what they did for my mother and our family,” penned Lisa.
The visit was truly impactful, creating an unforgettable and heartwarming moment as the mother tenderly interacted with the lifelike Bambi from her bed.
The importance of Bambi and deer in this woman’s life was profound. The visit undeniably stood out as a highlight in her final days.
Her daughter mentioned that she will hold her mother’s obsession dear to her heart till the end, with the added note that her mother will be laid to rest in one of her cherished Bambi shirts.
