From Joy to Tragedy: Woman Excited to Become a Mother Again – Dies Hours Later from Rare Complication

We often forget how vulnerable women can be when giving birth to their children. Even in this day and age, with medical science having advanced so much, many things can go wrong.

From Joy to Tragedy: Woman Excited to Become a Mother Again – Dies Hours Later from Rare Complication

It was the fifth time Kelli Tyler had been pregnant. The young mother from Oklahoma was excited to become a mother for the fifth time. She actively posted updates about her pregnancy.

But shortly after her fifth delivery, Kelli tragically died due to a rare complication as a result of childbirth.

Last week, Tyler updated her profile picture on Facebook as she prepared for a new delivery. The next day, she passed away.

“The amniotic fluid entered Kelli’s bloodstream [and] she lost more blood than she could absorb,” explained Julie Roach, Tyler’s mother. “I think the last words she said were: ‘I’m about to faint.'”

According to the Cleveland Clinic, an amniotic fluid embolism is a ‘dangerous and life-threatening complication.’ It can happen while someone is delivering a baby or shortly after delivery.

The Cleveland Clinic website states that this is why “some people, for mostly unknown reasons, have a severe allergic reaction to amniotic fluid mixing with their blood.” This can lead to cardiac arrest, uncontrolled breathing, or lung failure.

“She kind of came to and registered us again,” Roach remembered her daughter’s last moments.

At that moment, Tyler was giving birth to her daughter Jalie. It is not yet known whether Jalie will have long-term health complications as a result of her traumatic birth. The family won’t know ‘until she’s grown a little bigger.’

“Jalie will not personally know her mother, but she will know her mother. We have photos, we have recordings that we will play over and over again,” said Roach.

The family has set up a GoFundMe fundraiser to help with unexpected medical expenses and daily expenses for the newborn and the family as they go through this traumatic time. The fundraiser started a week ago and has raised three times the intended amount.

This is such a heartbreaking story. We wish the family all the best as they deal with this loss. Share this with others so more people are aware of this rare complication.
