Tragic Loss: 4-Year-Old Girl Dies While Shopping Due to Popular Kid’s Snack – Rest in Peace

Earlier this week, a little girl died at Costco. This happened after something got stuck in her throat while eating a hot dog.

For a family from Washington, USA, life suddenly turned upside down after what would have been a completely normal visit to Costco.

Something got stuck in their 4-year-old daughter’s throat while she was eating a hot dog, causing her to choke.

She died just days before her 5th birthday, reports the New York Post.

Many visitors on site

According to the site, there were many on-site visitors who witnessed the terrible accident and reportedly tried to help the girl.

Among other things, by initiating resuscitation and using an automatic, portable defibrillator.

The New York Post writes that the emergency services that were the first to arrive managed to remove the piece of food from the girl’s throat, and then took her to the hospital. But unfortunately, it was too late and her life could not be saved.

What to do if something is stuck in the throat

If someone is choking, it is important to act quickly.

For example, the Swedish site 1177 writes what should happen if someone (older than 1 year) is choking and conscious, but unable to cough:

Give 5 back blows:

  • Stand behind the person. Lean the person forward so the head is lower than the chest. Keep a hand against the top of the person’s chest for support.
  • Give five strong slaps with the palm of your hand between the person’s shoulder blades.

Press the stomach 5 times:

  • Stay behind the person. Make a fist with your hand and place it with the thumb side against the person’s belly, above the navel and below the breastbone.
  • Grab your fist with your other hand.
  • Push five times firmly inwards and upwards. Adjust the pressure to the size of the person.
  • “Only look in the mouth if you think the object has come up. Then continue alternating between back blows and abdominal thrusts until the object comes up or until help arrives. If the person becomes unconscious, call 112 and start resuscitation instead,” they write.
