Tragic Lightning Strikes Twice: 6-Year-Old Dies Weeks After Father Killed

The news of a father and son being struck by lightning shocked everyone. While the father did not survive the lightning strike, the son continued to live a month after the heartbreaking incident.

The Story of Grayson Boggs and His Father Matthew Boggs:

6-year-old Grayson Boggs and his 34-year-old father Matthew Boggs were walking hand in hand in their driveway in Valley Hills when the unthinkable happened. A lightning strike hit both of them, causing fatal injuries.

While Matthew died on the spot, little Grayson held on. He was immediately transferred to Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s Medical Center in Temple. Although his prognosis was grim from the start, his family did not want to give up hope.

The family launched a campaign and a GoFundMe fundraising to help Grayson have the best chance to fight. Unfortunately, even weeks after the incident on May 15, the little boy showed little improvement, leading doctors to advise removing life support on June 13. Grayson passed away just three days later.

The tragic incident, which occurred on May 15, 2023, took place around 5:00 p.m. when Matthew went to pick up his sons from the bus stop. Elijah separated from the duo, who were standing at the edge of the driveway when the thunder sounded.

Elijah remembers the scene when he ran back to his father and brother. Initially, he did not realize exactly what had happened.

“I was very scared. I rolled Grayson over and he smiled a little,” the 11-year-old Elijah said in an interview. “I thought they were just joking, but when I rolled my dad over the top of his head, it was bleeding, and his face was already purple.”

Matthew’s mother, Angela Boggs, was also present in the house and witnessed the entire gruesome situation. She rushed to the side of her son and grandson while neighbors also helped, attempting life-saving measures while waiting for emergency services.

A family friend, Stephanie Burris, launched a GoFundMe fundraising and kept those who donated updated with news about Grayson. Doctors had told the family from the start that the boy was heavily sedated and breathing with the help of a ventilator.

His mother, Kayla, then made the heartbreaking decision to remove her son from life support and registered him as an organ donor. Friends and family of the Boggs family visited him in his final days to say goodbye.

Grayson passed away the next day. The campaign had raised a total of $102,000, surpassing the set goal of $100,000.

This is such a heartbreaking story. We send our best wishes to Grayson and his family as they navigate through this heartbreaking time in their lives. Share this with others so they can also express their condolences.
