When Maria Isabel Benites Chamba was buried at 95 years old in Ecuador, one attendee at the funeral refused to leave her side.
Her beloved dog Bumer was present alongside family and friends to pay his respects to his owner, but he refused to leave her side.
During Maria’s wake, Bumer stayed by her side the whole time, just as he had done when Maria was still alive.
You could see the loyalty and affection that existed between her and her dog,” a spokesperson for the funeral home told The Dodo. “He was always with his owner.”
After the ceremony, a procession formed to follow Maria’s casket to the cemetery. That’s when Bumer jumped into the back of the car and refused to leave.
“He circled the hearse before jumping on board, as if he wanted to say, ‘I want to say goodbye to my mom,'” the spokesperson for the funeral home said.
“What a great example of loyalty.”
According to the funeral director, the dog was last seen being comforted by Maria’s family.
It’s heartbreaking to see how much Bumer’s loss is felt after his owner’s passing. We are lucky to have such loyal and loving furry friends.
