We often take for granted the gift of being born healthy. For some, like Kiana Smith, life presents unique challenges. Kiana was born with one of the world’s rarest birthmarks, which covered her entire face on the right side and her chest.
Throughout her life, Kiana faced ridicule and bullying due to her birthmark. She endured teasing and mockery from other children and underwent multiple surgeries in an attempt to lessen its impact.

During her youth, Kiana was even dubbed “the purple man-eater” due to her prominent facial birthmark.
Speaking to Daily Star, Kiana described feeling the blood flow around her birthmark and how it affected her speech by partially covering her mouth.
After undergoing a series of surgeries aimed at improving her quality of life, Kiana’s condition significantly improved.
“The surgeries on my birthmark have made a huge difference. I no longer have that large lump on my face,” she shared.
“It felt like having a huge slab of meat hanging from your face.”
“At times, I could sense the pulsating blood flow. But now, that sensation is gone. I can now speak clearly, which is wonderful,” she expressed.

Defying the birthmark’s impact on her life, Kiana chooses not to let it define her. While acknowledging the stares she receives, she believes that it’s more of an issue for the onlookers than for her.
She serves as an ambassador for the Vascular Birthmark Foundation and despite uncertainties about the future, Kiana sees endless possibilities ahead, stating that “the sky’s the limit.”
