Most parents are vigilant and attentive to their newborns, especially during the initial months. However, this heartless couple abandoned their 16-week-old twin babies without supervision for several days. The infants, needing constant care, were left alone and hungry as their parents chose to prioritize partying over parental duties.
Russian mother Margarita Yanayeva, 23, and her partner Alexey, 35, misled their friends by claiming their babies were hospitalized for COVID-19 treatment, as reported by Daily Mail. Subsequently, they indulged in a four-day drinking spree while their children suffered at home, neglected and unfed.
An investigator revealed, “For four days, the children were without food, deprived of supervision, and left in appalling conditions without any caretaker.” Instead of seeking assistance for their infants, the parents callously exposed them to hunger and neglect.
Concerned about their whereabouts, the children’s grandmother attempted to contact the couple but couldn’t reach them due to quarantine restrictions in the area. Alarmed, she contacted the authorities, leading to the discovery of the twins locked inside the home by Margarita and Alexey.
The boys were promptly admitted to a hospital.
The Mirror disclosed that the grandmother found the children in a distressing state. Unfortunately, one of the twins, the boy, succumbed to the ordeal after slipping into a coma, while his sister fights for survival.
Facing charges of negligence and endangerment, the couple, who displayed utter disregard for their children, may be sentenced to 20 years in prison if found guilty of the infant’s death.
A similar harrowing incident transpired in Arizona, where Anthony Martinez, 23, and Elizabeth Martinez, 26, locked their 6 and 7-year-old children in a closet. Allegedly confined without food for a month, the 6-year-old boy tragically lost his life, as per Arizona Central.
Responding to an emergency call regarding an unconscious child, authorities discovered the malnourished body of the 6-year-old, indicating no signs of physical trauma but succumbing to severe neglect.
During questioning, the parents admitted to the cruel punishment, claiming they confined their children in the closet due to alleged food thefts while asleep and intentionally withheld meals as a form of discipline.
The boys’ grandmother, Ann Martinez, 50, acknowledged the severe punishment inflicted upon the children. Subsequently, all three individuals—parents and grandmother—were arrested under charges of manslaughter and child abuse.
In a March report, it was disclosed that their other children, aged 7, 4, and 2, were placed under the care of Arizona Child Protective Services following this tragic incident.
