A family from Montana, USA, was recently overjoyed. Their daughter was finally able to go home after her latest surgery to remove a large tumor.
Having children is for many the happiest moment of their lives, and no matter what happens, you always want to be there for them.
But when you hear that something is wrong or that the baby is sick, it can be extremely difficult and feel very heavy.
This is what Joe and Jennifer McGillis from Montana, USA, experienced first-hand.
Born with a tumor on her face
Their daughter Sloan was born with a hemangioma, a benign tumor. And in her case, the tumor affected both the nerves and muscles of her face.
“They brought her to me”, Jennifer tells Inside Edition as she talks about the first time she saw Sloan. “I was in shock,” she says.

Numerous surgeries
After giving birth, they spent many hours in the hospital for tests, surgeries, and doctor appointments.
When their daughter recently turned 2, they went to New York City for one last surgery. It was the 10th!
Dr. Milton Waner, from the Vascular Birthmark Institute in New York, operated on Sloan. The operation was nothing new to him.

Inside Edition spoke with him about one of the major surgeries Sloan underwent when she was 10 months old. The doctor explained that the most important thing was not to destroy the nerves and muscles in the girl’s face.
“We removed most of the tumor, the nerves are intact. The muscle that allows her to smile is intact,” he said after the surgery.
