Sometimes unexpected things happen, like finding a new furry friend during a vacation. This was the case for a couple who encountered a puppy eager to join their family.
Reported by SWNS, Martina Russo and Fil were driving through the Spanish countryside from Milan, Italy when they noticed a local resident following them.
A small puppy was eagerly trying to catch up with them, sparking concern: “We thought it was just a game,” Martina shared with SWNS, “but we soon realized something was amiss because she was running fast and wouldn’t stop.”
Recognizing the puppy needed assistance, they halted to offer her some water, and the puppy quickly warmed up to them.
“We took her to the nearest village to inquire if anyone had lost her, but no one recognized her,” the couple posted on Instagram. “We were truly in the middle of nowhere, far from any residences or signs of human presence.”
“While returning, we placed her where we initially found her, hoping she could find her way back, but she followed us all the way to the van again.”
The persistent dog continued trailing their car, leading the couple to suspect that she had been abandoned in the countryside.
“The following day, we took her to the vet and discovered she had no microchip or sterilization. A one-year-old female, with a severely matted coat and gunk around her eyes,” Martina informed SWNS.
Despite their efforts to locate the puppy’s owner, no one came forward even after scouring the area and sharing on social media.
After a few weeks, they realized the dog had no one else and made the heartwarming decision to adopt her themselves!
Now named Moxie, the dog has become a cherished member of Martina and Fil’s family.
“She’s incredibly sweet and playful, adores our cats, and basically loves everyone and everything!” Martina exclaimed. “Taking her on adventures brings us joy, and she brightens our days with her antics.”
“Every day with Moxie is a new, exciting journey.”
