Saying Goodbye: Horse Bids Final Farewell to Owner Who Refused to Give Up

Sometimes, all it takes is some patience and love to truly make a difference in an animal’s life. And they will forever remember it and be eternally grateful to the person who saved them!

That’s what this true story shows. It’s the story of the beautiful bond between a man and a horse that stayed strong until the end.

The story comes from Janna Grapperhaus, a midwife from West Virginia, who remembers how her father brought home a “young and cruel stallion” named Major one day.

Major was still very wild. That was because his previous owners were unable to tame him. They tortured the poor creature with harsh techniques, including beatings and tying him to a pole for four weeks without food or water.

“When his father brought him home, he ran through five fences in a few minutes and bit and struck at anyone within reach,” wrote Janna.

But Janna’s father refused to “break” Major, instead taking the time to earn the horse’s trust. It was a method that others doubted. Anna says her mother thought the horse “would kill him” and nicknamed the horse “Big Problem.”

Yet the father was dedicated to the horse: “My father never broke him… on the contrary, he earned his heart,” wrote Janna.

“Every day, for hours, father worked to earn the trust of that abused horse.”

It took two years of hard work, but in the end, it worked: Major finally trusted his owner enough to let him run free.

Against all expectations, the wild horse was finally tamed. But there was more than that: a real love had developed between the man and his horse.

“When father went out, Major kissed him repeatedly on the head,” wrote Janna. “They had a bond that only horse people could ever understand.”

Unfortunately, Janna’s father recently passed away. And as his family and friends gathered to mourn at his funeral, so did his beloved horse. “It seemed only fitting to let Major say goodbye,” wrote Janna.

And in a beautiful moment, Major approached the coffin and bid farewell with a “final kiss.”

It is a story that demonstrates the power of love and patience, and how we can form truly loving bonds with animals: “In the end, love won,” writes Janna.
