The endearing moment was captured by Kally May on a ranch outside Steamboat Springs in Routte County, Colorado, as reported by Steamboat Radio.

Upon noticing the lone calf with no mother in sight, Kally observed three horses from the ranch taking care of the young deer. In the captivating photos, the horses can be seen nurturing and safeguarding the small animal.

Kally remarked that the horses were diligently “protecting [the calf] from predators.”

Although the fawn seemed to be orphaned, Kally received advice from local wildlife rehab to refrain from intervening and to let the deer calf be.

It is a typical behavior for mother deer to temporarily leave their offspring while foraging for food to avoid drawing attention from predators, returning to their young later in the day.

Interference from well-intentioned individuals in rescuing a seemingly orphaned fawn can complicate reunification efforts with its mother.

Therefore, Kally opted to follow the advice and fortunately, the next day, the mother deer came back to retrieve her fawn, as reported by Kally.

A happy conclusion, all thanks to three responsible horses that diligently watched over the young deer for an afternoon.
