Brave Bullfighter Hospitalized After Being Gored in the Face by Mighty Bull

Many people view bullfighting as a longstanding part of Spanish culture, but the ethical implications of this practice remain a topic of debate.

Animal rights activists have long opposed bullfighting, condemning the forced confrontations between bulls and matadors as brutal and inhumane, resulting in the deaths of thousands of bulls each year.

Bullfighting has historical roots dating back to gladiator contests, with origins tracing back to around 711 BC.

In these events, bulls also defend themselves, often leading to injuries or fatalities among the matadors, as captured in the video below.

During an event in the Mexican village of Puebla, female bullfighter Hilda Tenorio was attacked by a bull, sustaining severe injuries that required surgery, as reported by local newspaper El Sol de Puebla.

The 500 kg bull, named “Querido Viejo,” charged at Hilda while she was kneeling, resulting in a broken palate and jawbones on May 3.

Notably, this wasn’t the first time Hilda faced injuries in such events. In 2010, she was gored in the face, requiring 80 stitches.

Following the bull’s attack, Hilda was immobilized on the ground, receiving aid from onlookers after being pinned against the arena’s side.

Hilda later shared a message on her Facebook page, expressing gratitude for the support and detailing the severity of her injuries, including a completely fractured upper jaw.

According to The Independent, Hilda Tenorio holds the distinction of being the third Mexican female bullfighter in a traditionally male-dominated arena.

In her words, “Only 14 female matadors have been recorded in the history of bullfighting.”

We extend our sympathies to Hilda and wish her a swift recovery. However, it’s crucial to recognize the bull’s right to defend itself.
