A veterinary hospital in the United States is gaining attention online for their unique way of bidding farewell to their furry patients.
Prepare to grab some tissues.
Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is always heart-wrenching. You want to ensure they feel your love, showering them with hugs, kisses, and lots of treats.
However, there are times when this isn’t feasible.
Staff at Smiths Station Animal Hospital in Smiths Station, Alabama, recently shared their approach to euthanasia.
“This jar is reserved for our euthanasia appointments, because no dog should go to heaven without tasting chocolate,” explained Dr. Nicole Namie.
Dogs always receive a final treat, such as chocolate.
“If the staff had pizza for lunch, we would offer the dog some pizza as an extra treat,” she added.
The practice of “goodbye kisses” was only initiated a few weeks ago, inspired by an idea one of the assistants found online.

Since the viral sharing of the chocolate jar image, thousands of individuals have been posting pictures of their own pets, both alive and deceased.
What a touching gesture that provides solace to not just the dogs but also their owners.
Kudos to the compassionate team at Smiths Station Animal Hospital.
