Freedom is often taken for granted by many of us.
Regrettably, not all animals worldwide enjoy such freedom, and the brown bear Nelson has garnered significant attention.
Being confined in a cage for 30 years has earned him the title of the loneliest bear in the world.
Animal advocates are now campaigning for his release, as reported by Daily Star.
Being able to live where and how one pleases is a privilege that we may sometimes overlook.
We have the freedom to shape our lives according to our desires, making it heartbreaking to witness other beings deprived of that opportunity.
For three long decades, the brown bear Nelson has endured a life that no creature should ever experience.
From a young cub, he has been confined to a cage every single day.
Given just enough sustenance to survive, the sorrowful bear never had the chance to satisfy his hunger.
He exists in filth and neglect. Nelson, trapped in this abhorrent environment, yearns for change.
Activists are now vigorously campaigning for his liberation, according to Daily Star.
Severely injured in captivity
Throughout his caged existence, he has never known the freedom to roam.
The only activity available to him is pacing in circles within the confines of his enclosure.
Reports indicate numerous severe injuries inflicted over the years due to neglect and mistreatment.
His teeth were destroyed from gnawing on the bars of his cage in a desperate attempt to escape.
Two years ago, he lost his sight completely.
Currently, the UK-based animal organization IAR and their Armenian partners are dedicated to rescuing Nelson.
IAR has called upon the government to intervene with Nelson’s owner and demand his immediate release.
“We appeal to the government to show compassion towards this bear by allowing us to rescue him before it’s too late. While his owner ‘claims to love the bear,’ true love entails proper care, nourishment, and not subjecting the animal to loneliness and neglect,” stated the organization.
Demand for release
Since 2017, these organizations have been actively working to liberate captive bears globally.
As reported by Daily Star, their efforts have resulted in the release of 30 bears thus far. They are now striving for Nelson to be included in their rescue achievements.
“Immediate government approval is essential for saving this poor, elderly bear so that he can spend his remaining days under our care,” they emphasized in a statement.
“Shame on the individual who allowed him to endure such appalling conditions for 30 years. He must indeed be the saddest bear, enduring pain and darkness for so long.”
“Once authorities acknowledge this case, they can no longer turn a blind eye to the animal’s suffering,” they concluded.
Nelson, may you soon experience the outdoors and savor the remainder of your life in peace and liberty. Our hearts go out to you!
