When expecting a baby, having a pregnant friend to share the experience with is always heartwarming, even if that friend is not human.
Last year, a pregnant woman welcomed a pregnant cat into her home, and the two soon-to-be moms developed a special bond. Interestingly, they both ended up giving birth at the same time!
Lauren Maners, known for her love of animals and dedication to caring for shelter pets, decided to pause her pet care activities during her own pregnancy to focus on her impending motherhood.
However, destiny had a different plan. Months into her pregnancy, Lauren and her husband Kainan discovered a stray cat that they couldn’t ignore.
They encountered a thin and injured white cat, later named Dove, on the roadside. “Extremely thin and injured,” Lauren shared with Bored Panda.
Reportedly, Dove had been scavenging food from dumpsters, and it became apparent to the pregnant woman that the cat was also expecting. With no luck in finding Dove’s owner and no available shelter space, she decided to provide refuge to the pregnant feline.
“I couldn’t abandon her, knowing she’d have to fend for herself in the wild with her kittens,” expressed Lauren.
“I sensed she was in a dire state and felt a connection with her because we were both heavily pregnant,” she shared with The Dodo.
“By coaxing her with food scraps, I managed to capture her and wrap her in my jacket before taking her to the vet,” Lauren explained.
Determined to care for Dove and her soon-to-arrive kittens, Lauren welcomed the former stray into her home, where Dove soon felt comfortable.
“She accompanied me everywhere, enjoyed morning moments in our enclosed yard, and relished belly rubs while we shared breakfast,” Lauren recounted.
In exchange for her care, Lauren found a loyal companion in Dove, forming a genuine maternal bond with the expectant cat.
Their parallel journey led Lauren to playfully dub them the “Pregnant girls club” on social media.

“Dove and I instantly clicked,” Lauren revealed to Bored Panda. “It was almost like she recognized my pregnancy and saw me as a friend, being more trusting of me than my husband initially.”
As the due dates approached for both mothers, they found themselves gearing up for delivery around the same time.
Eventually, the magical moment arrived. Lauren welcomed a beautiful baby girl named Kylie into the world.
Upon returning home from the hospital, she uncovered an incredible coincidence: Dove had also given birth!
Although the exact timing of Dove’s delivery remains uncertain, Lauren speculates, “It’s highly probable they were born simultaneously,” as she divulged to The Dodo.
While tending to Dove and her kittens alongside caring for her own newborn, Lauren nurtured her bond with Dove, witnessing baby Kylie form connections with the feline offspring.
After several months of fostering, it was time to find forever homes for the cats. Lauren ensured all the kittens found loving families.
She informed The Dodo that a friend adopted Dove, allowing her to visit the cat regularly.
Reflecting on the experience of caring for a pregnant cat during her pregnancy, Lauren underscored the necessity of spaying and neutering cats to curb the stray feline population.
