Startling images have emerged showcasing the harsh reality of Dutch pig farming once more.
These distressing events unfolded in Nuenen, North Brabant, and Lunteren, Gelderland, according to a report by RTL Nieuws.
Animal Rights shared photos from an undercover mission conducted earlier this year in Gelderland and North Brabant.
The undercover agent was tasked with various activities like tagging piglets, docking tails, providing medications and vaccines, and grinding the teeth of newborn piglets.
Unlawful Activities
Campaign leader Erwin Vermeulen of Animal Rights elaborated: “Tail docking and teeth grinding are routine procedures that violate regulations. The piglets vocalize their pain during these actions while the mother pigs, confined within steel bars, witness helplessly.”
The undercover footage captures instances where sick and injured piglets are left untreated, or vocalize their distress during medical procedures like injections and tail docking, as portrayed in the " target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">video shared.
Abandoned Skinned Piglet
The undercover operative ‘Tom’ encountered many heartbreaking moments during the mission.
‘Tom’ shared, “Heart-wrenching scenes involved mother pigs desperately attempting to escape from farrowing crates to reach their piglets. However, even more distressing were scenes of mother pigs lying listlessly beside their (stillborn) piglets inside the crates.”
Furthermore, a skinned piglet was observed neglected and devoid of any medical attention.
Forced Piglet Excrement Extraction
In some instances, piglet feces were forcefully extracted for sampling purposes.
“Pigs are intelligent, social creatures subjected to grim, unhealthy conditions in the meat industry,” expressed campaign leader Vermeulen. “As the holiday season approaches, we implore consumers to reconsider their meat consumption habits. This is crucial to end the suffering endured by these animals.”
