Tragic School Trip: Looming Mystery Unearthed by Coroner 9 Months Later

In March 2017, Sara, a 16-year-old, tragically passed away during a school trip to Vancouver Island, Canada.

While her classmates headed to the dining hall for breakfast, Sara opted to stay in bed.

Upon their return, they found Sara’s alarm incessantly buzzing, with no sign of Sara emerging from her room.

Medical assistance was sought, but unfortunately, it was futile in saving the teenager’s life.

The cause of Sara’s death remained unknown until nine months later, following an autopsy that uncovered the truth behind the demise of the seemingly healthy 16-year-old.

Sara had been afflicted with Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS), a rare condition triggered by a bacterial infection that can swiftly turn life-threatening.

The coroner disclosed that the bacteria responsible for Sara’s condition was traced back to her tampon.

TSS can be contracted through various means, including improper tampon usage or via an untreated wound.

Nine months following the tragic incident, Sara’s sister, Carli Manitoski, took to Facebook to caution individuals about the risks associated with tampons. Here is her heartfelt message:

“PLEASE SHARE:

After nine painful months, we have finally received confirmation that my little sister succumbed to Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS).

Women need to be more knowledgeable about this issue; some may not even be aware of what TSS entails. While TSS is considered extremely rare, I personally know of two individuals affected by it – one barely survived, and my sister tragically did not.

Can something so rare truly be so commonplace? My sister complained of stomach cramps before retiring to bed and never woke up. My beautiful, incredibly healthy sister lost her life to this. Please share, educate yourselves, and exercise caution when using tampons.

There is minimal awareness surrounding this issue, and it demands attention. Such a needless and tragic loss for an extraordinary young woman. I wouldn’t wish this upon anyone else, and if this post enlightens even one person about TSS, I am grateful for that.

Thank you for reading and please share ❤ “

Preventive Measures for TSS risk when using tampons:
• Change tampon every 8 hours, at least.

• Thoroughly wash hands before inserting a new tampon.

TSS arises from a toxin produced by staphylococcus bacteria, which can multiply when in contact with human blood in a tampon or through blood in a wound.

If TSS symptoms are suspected, immediate medical attention is crucial, as the risk of fatality is significant without prompt treatment.
