Witnessing a sea creature stranded on land can be a heartbreaking sight. Unfortunately, these creatures sometimes find themselves stuck, unable to return to their natural habitat in the sea.
Fortunately, there are kind-hearted individuals known as good Samaritans who come to the rescue of such animals. Recently, a group of resourceful beachgoers stepped in to help a stranded dolphin in need.
As reported by the Irish Examiner, a Risso’s dolphin calf had become stranded on Magheraroarty beach in West Donegal, Ireland.
Isolated from its group and exposed to the scorching sun, the dolphin was in a helpless situation until a group of vacationers intervened to assist.
The compassionate individuals, including Tina Crean, Mervin and Adam Davidson, Ray and Dawn Gill, along with two others, acted swiftly and ingeniously by utilizing available resources to aid the distressed dolphin.
To cool down the dolphin and prevent dehydration, they shielded it with seaweed and damp towels
Subsequently, they employed towels to guide the dolphin back into the water
Their prompt actions received accolades from local animal organizations. A spokesperson from the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group conveyed appreciation, stating, “The prompt actions of the holidaymakers and the general public helped return the calf back to sea,” to the Irish Examiner.
ORCA Ireland also praised the good Samaritans for their dolphin rescue efforts, mentioning on Facebook, “The calf has successfully been refloated and given a new lease of life.”
“We have seen amazing communities come together in recent marine mammal emergencies, and it is truly inspiring!”
While the dolphin was successfully rescued this time, they cautioned that due to its poor condition, it could face the risk of stranding again. Both groups urged people to reach out to local sea rescue services in such situations.
Kudos to these compassionate individuals for their heroic act in saving this dolphin!
