Kaylee Doonkeen and her spouse stumbled upon a distressed puppy in their yard the day before Thanksgiving. Upon closer inspection, they made a disturbing discovery.
In their backyard lay a puppy, no more than three months old, with a disturbing feature – his ears had been cruelly cut off at the scalp.
The couple swiftly took the puppy, named Rocky, to an animal shelter in Oklahoma City for immediate attention.
“It appears this dog was subjected to torture,” remarked Kaylee Doonkeen, as reported by Oklahoma News 4.
Veterinarians were astounded by Rocky, expressing that they had never encountered such a horrific case before.
An Unusual Case
Thankfully, upon examination, the veterinarian reassured that Rocky would recover well and retain his hearing.
“While we have seen cases of ear slicing, this instance of complete ear removal is unprecedented for us,” mentioned Jonas, the head of animal welfare, to KEPR TV.
Despite the trauma, Rocky exhibited remarkable trust and affability towards his caregivers, displaying resilience against the cruelty he had faced.
“He won’t regain his ears, but eventually, his fur will grow over the wounds, preserving his hearing,” stated Jon Gary.
Identifying the perpetrators was a daunting task, as acknowledged by Gary, who emphasized the significance of uncovering those responsible for such cruelty.
“This is a more significant issue than people realize, and it’s crucial that we pursue justice in identifying the culprits,” he added.
PETA has offered a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) accountable.
Meanwhile, Rocky eagerly awaits a new beginning in his life.
The dedicated team at Oklahoma City Animal Welfare, who attended to Rocky, received an outpouring of public support, with numerous inquiries about adopting him.
Finally, in January, Rocky found his forever home with Jesse and April Dean, alongside their five-year-old grandson, Tucker.
“He just needs affection, and we are more than willing to provide that,” expressed Dean.
It’s astounding how this resilient dog maintains a gentle demeanor despite enduring such cruelty.
