When flames engulfed Red Wing Farm in Pennsylvania, the horse named Phoebe was overcome with fear, standing frozen in panic instead of fleeing.
Police officer Matthew Reiss and his partner were determined not to let Phoebe perish in the blaze.
Fires instill terror due to their intense heat and suffocating smoke, posing a significant threat to both humans and animals. While many animals instinctively run from fires, some, like Phoebe, become paralyzed and unable to escape.
Phoebe found herself trapped as the stable burned down at Red Wing Farm in Pennsylvania, unable to move as reported by Animal Channel.
Police Act Swiftly
Fortunately, Officers Matthew Reiss and Kristian Hanus quickly arrived at the scene.
Upon witnessing the barn ablaze, they inquired about any occupants still inside.
A woman at the scene informed the officers that only a terrified horse, refusing to budge, remained in the burning building.
Reiss shared with the Bucks County Courier Times, “We were doing paperwork when we got the call about a fire on Hilltown Pike.”

Determined not to abandon Phoebe to her fate, Reiss and Hanus courageously ventured into the inferno of the barn to assess the situation.
While the barn was devoid of human presence, the officers were resolute about rescuing the horse. They faced the challenge of safely extracting the animal to freedom.
A Remarkable Rescue
The officers urged the hesitant horse to move, employing sheer strength, ropes, and unwavering determination to guide Phoebe out of danger.
Recalling the intense moment, Reiss admitted to the Courier Times, “I had no clue how to deal with this… I just stood behind her, nudging her in the right direction.”
Amidst chaos and flames, the video footage captures Phoebe eventually galloping out of the burning barn stall, closely followed by the awe-struck officers escaping up the hill to safety.
Reflecting on the intense rescue operation, Reiss remarked, “Upon arrival, countless assessments are made – evaluating the situation, determining the necessary actions, and bringing everything under control.”
While Reiss and Hanus sustained minor injuries, eight individuals at the farm required medical attention, fortunately without any severe casualties.
The only casualty of the tragic incident was the barn, which sadly could not be salvaged.
Truly remarkable heroes. Their selfless act of bravery in the face of danger is awe-inspiring.
It’s heartening to know there are individuals like these officers among us.
