The Brave Yorkie: How a Small Dog Fought Off a Coyote to Save Her 10-Year-Old Owner

The bond between a child and their dog is truly special. Dogs not only provide companionship but also show great protective instincts when needed, willing to put themselves in harm’s way to safeguard their owners.

A small yet incredibly brave dog demonstrated this recently by bravely confronting a coyote to protect her 10-year-old owner, sustaining injuries in the process.

Macy, a six-year-old Yorkie-mix, resides with her owner Dorothy Kwan and their family in Scarborough, Toronto.

The video captures the alarming scene as the coyote attacks Macy while the girl cries out for help.

In the end, Macy emerged victorious. Despite her injuries, Macy continued to bark, eventually causing the coyote to back off, seemingly intimidated by the smaller dog.

“You can see our dog placing herself between my daughter and the coyote,” shared Dorothy Kwan with blogTO.

“Even after she was severely injured, she kept barking and driving the coyote away. She fought back.”

Although Macy successfully defended against the coyote, she did suffer significant injuries. Dorothy explained, “She has extensive injuries to her body and leg.”

“She is undergoing surgery for her wounds at the emergency animal hospital.”

Overwhelmed with emotions, Dorothy felt devastated knowing that her cherished dog got hurt while protecting her daughter.

“My heart is breaking for my little one and for our dog who we rescued 5 years ago. I am a single mother of two, and my kids and our dog mean everything to me.

After receiving treatment for her injuries at the animal hospital, Macy’s medical expenses amounted to thousands.

However, when the family initiated a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds and shared Macy’s courageous tale, people responded generously: the fundraiser surpassed nearly $20,000, doubling the initial goal.

Encouraging news followed as Macy began to recover well, as reported by Dorothy on the fundraising page.

“Her fever has subsided, and her appetite has returned,” she shared. “I am so proud of her. No coyote will dare to challenge her once she’s back home. My spirited girl is a true fighter. I love you so much. You’ve got this!”

Such a courageous little dog. We wish the heroic Macy a speedy recovery!
