One Saturday in May 2007 is a day Ryan Finley will never be able to shake off. When he thinks back on what happened, it’s not just his hair standing on end, but everyone who was there as well.
If you didn’t believe in fate so far, maybe you will after hearing Ryan’s story.
Ryan Finely found his wife Jill lifeless on the floor of their shared home. He had no idea what had happened, but saw no injuries on her, indicating she may have had a heart attack.

Ryan instinctively performed CPR while waiting for an ambulance. Unfortunately, it did not yield results.
In a coma
The ambulance personnel managed to revive Jill with a defibrillator, but unfortunately the damage was done.
Jill’s brain was severely affected by the long time she was completely lifeless; therefore, she was put into a coma.
Ryan was devastated and spent several days constantly by his wife’s hospital bed. However, she remained unconscious and showed no sign of waking up.
Breathing turned off…
After weeks without even a blink from Jill, the doctors said the worst words Ryan had ever heard from anyone.
“Today may be the worst day of my life. I actually have to decide if she is going to die or not,” Ryan wrote in his diary that he kept while Jill was in the hospital.

According to TODAY, doctors had said Jill had a 1-2 percent chance of recovering and leading a normal life. Keeping her on life support was actually deemed futile by them, but it was up to Ryan to decide whether or not to let her, his wife, rest in peace.
After several anxiety attacks and tears, Ryan decided to listen to the doctors’ advice.
Woke up and said four words
When they disconnected the ventilator, Jill’s heart kept beating, which the doctors considered normal. Shortly afterwards, Ryan noticed her lips starting to move.
At 11:45 pm, Ryan heard his wife speak for the first time in weeks:
“Get me out of here,” Jill said to her husband.
Ryan was shocked and before he knew it, Jill asked to go to one of her favorite restaurants to eat.

Ryan considers it a miracle that Jill is alive and kicking today. There is no other explanation for him.
“We now appreciate every day, every minute, every hour,” the survivor told TODAY.
