Living harmoniously with wildlife is important, but sometimes our roads can hinder their movement.
Occasionally, animals require human assistance, just like when a man aided a young moose in crossing over a highway railing.
This heartwarming incident took place in Anchorage, the capital of Alaska. As per Andrea Bock’s account, a mother moose was struggling to guide her young offspring over the highway, obstructed by a tall guardrail.
Despite being halfway across, the young moose became frightened and darted nervously back and forth while cars whizzed by.
Witnessing this, Andrea observed a man emerging from his vehicle to offer assistance.

The hero of this story is Joe Tate. He decided to assist the young moose in crossing the railing to reunite with its mother. Joe shared with KTUU, “It was exhausted… very, very young. Maybe a week and a half old.”
Initially considering contacting park rangers, Joe hesitated fearing the risk of the young animal being struck by a vehicle.
Furthermore, such interventions with moose can be tricky as they are potentially dangerous creatures. The mother could perceive the man as a threat, leading to a defensive attack or rejection of the young.
However, leveraging his experience as a war veteran and nature enthusiast well-versed in animal behavior, Joe tactfully assisted the calf.

Fortunately, the reunion went smoothly. Joe successfully guided the moose over the railing, returning it to its mother.
“It all worked out,” Joe expressed. “The outcome could have been far worse, and I understand that. But I did it to assist, and the risk was worthwhile.”
According to KTUU, Joe’s actions were technically illegal as it is against the law to handle wild animals. Nevertheless, Alaska Wildlife Troopers decided not to press charges, recognizing Joe as a “good Samaritan” in this scenario.

Let’s extend a huge thank you to this compassionate man for aiding the moose calf in reuniting with its mother! Share this heartening news!
